About Me
Welcome to Tinker with Text! My name is Vicki Den Ouden (M.Ed) and I'm a Reading Intervention Teacher (SD23) in Kelowna, BC, Canada. I've also been a classroom teacher and LAT/LST for school districts and independent schools in BC and Alberta. Over the course of my teaching career, I've had the privilege of working with teachers as a mentor or instructor at Simon Fraser University (SFU), the University of British Columbia-Okanagan (UBCO), and the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), as well as in China and Guatemala. My background is in reading curriculum and instruction, learning disabilities, ELL instruction, and technology integration/ UDL.
In addition to that, I'm an educational consultant for WriteReader.com, a Community Builder for Flipgrid, and a Google Certified Educator, Level 1. I'm also an evaluator for ERAC, and a reviewer for BCTELA's e-journal, English Practice.
I'm part of an extensive PLN on Twitter and am very active there. Love, love, love edu Twitter chats! You can find me there at @vicki_den
This year, I've been collaborating with the Teacher Librarian and the Learning Assistance Teacher at my school. Together we hope to explore how literacy instruction can be integrated with maker education. Please check out our school's makerspace website. Thanks for joining us on this journey of inquiry!
